A Sceptical Challenge

Richard Wiseman is the first professor in the public understanding of psychology at the university of Hertfordshire. He is also a fellow of the committee for skeptic inquiry. His research has been published in numerous academic journals and reported at various conferences and has featured on television, radio. He has written several books on the subject of the paranormal, and the allegedly trickery said to be involved in the subject of the paranormal and mediumship and psychism. At the university he recreates fraudulent seances and the trickery involved to fool sitters. It would appear that he has come full circle from when he used to be a professional magician years ago on the streets of London's covent garden, using slight of hand, misdirection and trickery to mislead the public.

James Randi, a retired stage magician and illusionist and scientific skeptic who describes supernatural claims as " Woo Woo" Although he is unable to prove that psychic, paranormal or supernatural gifts do not exist. He puts it all down under one umbrella of mind games and trickery. In 1972 he publicly challenged the claims of psychic Uri Geller that he was truly psychic, claiming him to be a charlatan and fraud, these claims were never proven. Some years ago James Randi offered the million dollar challenge to anyone who could offer under test conditions the proof of the existence of psychic or paranormal gifts. Of course him being a complete skeptic no one would win this money.

Derren Brown labels himself according to Wikipedia a trickster, hypnotist, illusionist and skeptic. Derren often recreates in his stage shows Victorian parlor games, set out to discredit spiritualism, mediumship and psychism in all its forms, debunking any serious belief in the subject. With television programs with titles like Trick Of The Mind, Trick Or Treat and Mind Games I think I know who is playing to the mass audience, using misdirection, illusion and trickery to fool the general public. The challenge I put to theses three world known skeptics is prove without any doubt that psychic gifts in whatever form don't exist? Of course under test conditions.

Interesting that skeptics so often seem to be or were stage magicians, hypnotist or illusionists. Example from Houdini to the present day illusionists. Note: it’s not the English spelling which is spelt with a c = sceptics as “organized skeptics” in Britain use the American spelling. Skeptical organisations are the main defenders of the belief that psychic phenomena are illusory: they seek to debunk or deny any evidence that suggest they might be wrong. Members of skeptical organisations often think of themselves as lonely defenders of science and reason. Their opponents see them as self-appointed vigilantes. See Rupert Sheldrake’s book “The Science Delusion” and the chapter “are psychic phenomena illusory”? I recommend this book it’s certainly an eye opener especially if your like me you know the evidence of healing, Mediums and psychic experiences.
